Does anyone know where i can get a new usb3 connector for a laptop?
I had a donor board but the connector was slightly different and i cannot seem to locate any.
Its for a Dell Laptop.
Attached is the original.
I went to Lotes but seems i cannot locate this particular one.

USB Type A 3.0 is based on, backward compatibly to, 2.0 port one, i.e power and GND always on side pins, doesn’t seem to change in near future. Five extra pins into this connector are one more GND pin and the four data signals.

is spread out in market, so strange if hard to find there

https://www.lotes.cc/en/product.php?act=view&id=193 (https://www.lotes.cc/en/product.php?act=view&id=193) (AUSB0390) seems to be the only one on their website which is matching the form of the metal casing.
Unfortunately it looks like parts from Lotes are generally hard to obtain from the usual electronics distributors. So if you want the exactly fitting part the best chances are in deed from another broken laptop of the same model.
Depending on how far the USB socket is offset from the PCB, https://gct.co/connector/usb1110 (https://gct.co/connector/usb1110) might be an alternative part that could actually work and is easy to get. However, it looks like the socket might end up a few millimeters to low in the casing compared to the one on your photos, so probably need some tinkering.

i have the same as the OP in a acer aspire es1-531-p9qu
the logo is a sea horse ??? no name printed
the best would be to salvage it from another board ??

That does look close. I wish they had a diagram with dimensions.
I took a connector off a dead asus laptop that i thought looked similar and the chassi solder tab was off and the pins were off just a tad.
I might just wire in a cut usb3 cable and
give my laptop a pig tail
I also stumbled across one that looks close on aliexpress but for 20 bucks, not sure i wana take the chance.

the second one linked has drawings available
-
I totally missed that second link :palm:
Anyways, looking at that, that one looks like the one off the asus.
The ground shield solder tab by the thru hole contacts
Is even with both rows of contacts, the one in that second link shows the back row out of alignment.
I may be able to hack it up a bit to fit. I mean the pinout is standard, it just seems to be the placement of the pins to the ground tabs.
Maybe ill cut the tabs off and just solder them in the board and then to the shield.

It's a quite common connector you can find on aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33034950295.html (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33034950295.html)

Wow thats cheaper than what i found and looks pretty close on the pin line up.
I think aliexpress is having issues. Tried to check out twice with paypal and it errored out.

Aliexpress saver shipping arrives to me in about 10 days. Aliexpress standard shipping takes about a week after dispatch.
-
Well I think I got scammed. I placed the order, used paypal. Paypal thing popped up showing amount, amount was correct, I click allow. Got my email saying item has shipped and to allow 50-60 days to arrive (spydy senses peaking).
few days later, I check my paypal account and it shows a transaction for not what I allowed. Item was about 3 bucks total, what I got was a transaction for 46.96 from some place NOT aliexpress. Something called "Virtual Commodity Supplier" with an email of "goldceo_pay@hotmail.com".
Now how on earth can they do this?
-
99,999% chance the issue has nothing to do with aliexpress. If you used paypal, there is no way aliexpress can charge more (not like they ever do). The only way someone can charge some amount is only if you have a subscription (for which you can check your paypal account) or someone has stolen your password. And even if password was stolen, paypal normally asks for verification via phone number.

Did you ever use this? https://www.gvgmall.com/ (https://www.gvgmall.com/)

No, but thank you for posting that. You just saved me a lot of grief.
I showed it to my wife and she goes "Oh!...i bought office that day from cdk deals"
So it was not a fraud. :-+
There is still hope! I may still get my connectors.

Most likely it was, sort of. These websites usually sell the same key to multiple buyers, or key has a shady origin. For example, was initially purchased with a stolen credit card. In general not much better than simply pirating the software.

New connector came early, installed pretty easy. Looks like I damaged a pad when trying to clean the old solder off. Fixed the trace, installed the new connector and I have no more Over current messages. win Win. Thanks again for helping me locate the correct connector.
