LCD (or Controler Failure)
« on: May 02, 2016, 10:30:04 am »
Hi.
I was just wondering, does this fault look like the LCD itself is faulty,
or could it be the board that takes the Video Signal, and sends it to the LCD?

My Guess is the LCD... Because the defect is a funny oval shape, and 1 section of the LCD is dead (Which corresponds to the 1 set of ribbon cables from the onboard controller (on the LCD itself).

The Backlight is powering up fine.

They are going to fly replacement parts in for me, but just want to make sure.

Thanks

My guess what happened:
One driver chip on the left failed and is shorting one of the analogue voltage rails. This affects all other drivers, therefore the LCD sees a DC voltage (LCDs don't like DC) and displays strange images. The oval shape is most likely caused by the DC voltage slowly destroing the liquid crystals and therefore changing their characteristics. The non uniform pressure applied the LCD due to mounting of the display creates the patterns.
I have seen even more funny/interesting patterns on LCDs when shutting them down but keeping the backlight on without discharging the analogue voltages.
