LCD drum module repair ideas
« on: October 28, 2020, 02:17:20 am »
Hi,
I am working on repairing the LCD screen in a Roland drum module.  The original issue was that the bottom half of the screen had sections fading out over time, which I was able to correct by dismantling the drum kit and cleaning all connectors to the LCD as well as from the LCD to the motherboard.  I did this using contact cleaner and had to use some compressed air in sections that I noticed had small pieces of dust stuck on the connectors.
Now, I am trying to repair a second issue which is the appearence of bubbles in the display which is amplifed when power is connected.  The "bubbles" look better/worse depending on the angle I look at the screen.  Any ideas on how I can manipulate the bubbles to either all go in one section, join together or somehow eliminate them from the LCD?  I am OK with dismantling the module again and removing the LCD.  Buying a replacement LCD does not seem to be an option as it is no longer available.
Here are some photos showing the LCD on and off as well as a piece of the component when it was removed:

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Glued on polarizer foil delaminating?
(Just a wild guess...)

Edit: Looks like this is not an unknown issue to some LCDs, so yep, probably the polarizer unsticking itself.)
