LCD ITO pads - conductive ink repair?
« on: April 18, 2022, 02:38:31 pm »
Hello EEVblog community, first time posting here!

Some of the ITO pads have worn out on my mid-80's segmented LCD display. See picture below. I don't know if they did so upon removal of the old broken heat seal cable, or during operation somehow.

I hoped it would work after all, so I tried to install a new heat seal cable, but several segments were not working, and others had poor contrast.

Short of having a replica display made, the display is irreplaceable. My thought so far is attempting to paint the pads using silver ink, and hoping that enough ITO trace remains to successfully bridge with the ink.

I'm concerned however with the adhesion onto the glass, which conductive ink to use,  the difficulty of accurately applying the ink on the 1.27mm pitch pads, and potentially causing more damage to the ITO traces.

Has anyone ever attempted a repair of worn/broken ITO traces or have any advice on this?

Thank you all for a wonderful forum!
