Lecroy Wavemaster 8300A-System recovery key USB.
« on: July 10, 2020, 09:43:56 am »
I've just discovered an old Lecroy Wavemaster 8300A scope at work. The unit powers on but there is NOTHING on the TFT display (NO bootup text, logo or anything accept lines across the screen and then some funky colours). There is a Windows XP logo that appears on an external monitor and then that goes blank as well. I'm going to try to restore the system using
these instructions before I do anything else.

The scope has XP Pro installed. Just wondering if anyone has done the same and if so can offer any tips or additional documentation. Thanks.

If the graphics is Intel based, <CTRL><ALT><F1> should be the keyboard hotkey to switch over to the VGA output.

I would be very careful running a recovery, you don't want to lose the factory calibration which is stored on the hard drive!

my SDA6000 (WM8600) was unused for about a year, when i turned it on screen is blank with some funky colors (random dots of colors on black background), the fix is turn it off for a while, turn on then its ok again i suspect there are some cold joints on the board. when regularly used within few days, it seems the random colors is gone for now... i agree the first thing you have to do is stripped away the HDD to another PC and try to recover inside there as much as you can first. those PATA HDD is dying... fwiw.
