Lecroy Waverunner 104MXi PSU repair
(1/1)
Kurets:
Since a few years I have a Waverunner 104MXi which i upgraded with a faster processor, more RAM, and SSD when I got it. It has been reliable up to now when I found that it sometimes would give the "No hardware detected" error. The error would clear if I removed the power plug for a few minutes, indicating that it was a power issue.
After having left it unplugged for a few days, yesterday I plugged it in to find that the 5V standby supply is making a whining noise and the scope won't start :-BROKE. So, time to dig into the PSU to replace dried out electrolytics!
I know there are people with more experience disassembling these scopes and have a question. When getting to the point of remving the acquisition board, the connector panel is semi-loose but plugged into connectors on the acquisition board. The first time I took the scope apart, I left the connector board attached but this was very wobbly and seemed like it would damage the connector. My question: how do I disconnect the connector board from the acquisition board? It seems like just plugged edge connectors, but I feel no give when pulling so I am worried that I am missing something.

Remembering this thread: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/teledyne-lecroy-waverunner-64xi/
Maybe there is no need to risk disconnecting the connector board (frontend board)?
analogRF:
there is no need to disconnet the FE board. the whole thing comes out but be gentle.
however the problem I am having is how to power up the PSU when disconnected from the ACQ board?
I thought the regular grounding the green wire (PS_ON) on th ATX connector on the mobo turns it on but no.
some sort of other control signal is needed to power on this PSU and I cannot figure it out it seems
