LeCroy Waverunner 610ZI motherboard exchange
« on: October 14, 2022, 03:47:15 pm »
Hi all,

I have a LeCroy Waverunner 610Zi which started to act up in the last couple of months. It started with it randomly shutting off and now it is at the point that it does not turn on anymore at all. The Teledyne support was less then helpful.
I opened it up and checked the components, replaced a broken fan and tried turning on the installed Computer without the evaluation board connected to it and with a different power supply. Nothing helps, the Computer does not turn on (the fans start spinning but it does not go into POST) it seems like something on the motherboard is broken.
Since I do not need the internal Computer my idea was to just replace it with a normal desktop pc, the only connections to the evaluation baord are a SAS connector and a network connector. Does anyone know if this is possible or does know more about the communication between evaluation board and the computer?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi

have you already tried to reconnect all the connectors?
Maybe the Ram, the CPU or some other connectors aren't right in place and just loos

I had the issue that i cannot see the post on the internal screen and had to connect an external monitor to get into the BIOS and reset it right there to factory defaults....
As the fans start spinning it might be the case that the Screen connectors are loss or some settings prevent the internal screen and just shows up on an external screen

I nothing helps, i would consider to exchange the MB in the scope and keep the Scope as standalone dev. - should be possible in those WR-Zi - AFAIK there are more or less standard MB used with std PCI interfaces, so an exchange to a new one should be possible.

Don't forget to make a backup of the Harddrive - especially the D-Partion with the Calibration data ;-)

Hi,

Thanks for the info.
I checked all the connections,  I did not have any DDR2 RAM lying around so I could not exchange it but I think this would manifest in a different way.
The external monitor I have anyways connected because the touch one broke a while ago.
I will try that, the Oscilloscope is only used over network so no need for the fancy controls. Do you have any example MB you think would work?

oh that sound of course horrible....

Maybe one more idea - what about the BIOSbackup batterie -have you tried a reset of the bios via the JUMPER on the MB / exchange the Batt.?

I have no cloue which MB could fit as i dont have a ZI - just own the small formfactor WS Xs-A & WR XI-A
Guess a mini ATX can fit - some LECROYs need LVDS adapters - but not sure which one is used inside a WR Zi....

You should try as well to ask in the group here:

The members get a mail on posts made inside the group - better than waiting if someone see your post ;-)

Don't know if it might help, but I once had similar symptoms on a 6Zi, and it was the disk's SATA cable that was bad... maybe worth a try...
