lettering

cncjerry:
The subject often annoys us, and I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to apply lettering to projects? This would be silk screened or somehow plastic stenciled lettering, not rub-on, unless it was something new. I have devices that have rubberized coating that is sticky that I want to remove. I want to put the lettering back on after spraying the cases again. Mostly, the lettering would be applied to flat surfaces. Ideally, some kind of precut stencil would be ideal, were you would apply the stencil, spray, remove, etc.
As the surfaces are plastic, I wouldn't be able to cure it.
Any ideas? Can you paint on 10pt lettering using silk screening?
Thanks
Jerry

Use a laser cutter (5W diode laser will work on plastic). I use Inkscape and its 'Hershey text' plugin to generate the toolpaths, these are single-stroke fonts.

There are a ton of laser engravers out there. They sent a lot of them to YouTubers, so pick the one you trust and check their reviews. They are not super cheap, but if you need to do that regularly, it may be worth the price. I bet it will be cheaper and way easier than a silk screen setup from scratch.

I haven't invested in a laser yet. My brother has one. he said you have to watch melting plastic as it will cloud the lens. He suggested I setup air extraction if I go that route. I have tons of CNC gear and had a laser setup to cut black tape a while back. I guess I could place tape on the case, cut the tape, lift the sections to be painted and spray it.
