Looking for a good PLCC puller
« on: February 08, 2021, 07:17:27 pm »
I just replaced EEPROM chips on HP53132A.  These are PLCC32 type.

My cheapo chip extractor didn't quite get claws under the chips so I ended up prying them out of socket.  (which is not a good thing)  I also didn't like the fact the design of the puller requires me to put stress on PCB, because I have to PULL the puller up.

This is what I have:

Would anyone recommend me one that's likely to work (smaller claw) and I can pull a lever to pull the chip up?

Like these but for PLCC?

This is what I have:

Nobody besides you can see your order history. I have cheap PLCC extractor which I made working significantly better by grinding area above hooks to make hooks a bit longer and angle flatter.

I have the same. As I said, you can make it work better by grinding it a bit.

I still have few of those cheapos, they were giveaways once.

I've grinded and filed them depending the situation.
One socket model had so narrow air cap that it was unbelievable.

Back in the day a friend liked to use simple long hook nosed pliers.
Not exactly popular, says google.
