Looking for a suitable replacement for a P-channel JFET
« on: May 31, 2020, 09:18:42 pm »
I'm going through an HP 334a distortion analyzer and discovered a p-channel JFET on the rejection amp board was replaced with a component of questionable compatibility after failing to adjust bias at A3TP2 within a certain range.  The service manual for the analyzer specs Q4 as a TI SFB 2696 (1250μs, 4ma), and the component in its place is a Siliconix device numbered "5-006 7340".  I wasn't able to find data on either part.

Does anyone have any info on these JFETs?  What might be a good substitute for the original part?

I found a TI semiconductor catalog from 1966 and was't able to correlate any of the FETs listed with the part no. 2696.  There was a 2N2696, a general purpose transistor, but Q4 is very much a JFET.

Thanks for any help

edit: I did some more sleuthing and found the siliconix part is OEM.

hi,

I don't know what version of service manual you have but in mine transistor Q4 in board A3 (reject. amp.)
shows little info (see pic. 1 attached)

As we only have HP internal ref. number "1855-0209" , a google search  returns some info … (see pic. 2 attached)

So, theoretically you have for example 2N5461 as compatible …

hope it helps !

cheers

Thanks.  The manual for my unit references the transistor with internal p/n of 1855-0006, which I googled and came up with the Siliconix part in question, so it definitely wasn't replaced.  Guess I'll have to look elsewhere for the problem.
