Looking For TDS 794D EEPROM Image
« on: January 03, 2024, 04:24:16 pm »
To put it bluntly, I messed up.
While trying to modify the content of the NVRAM to enable options, I accidentally overwrite the EEPROM content. I believe it holds the cal constant.
Now on boot up, it shows, FAIL ++ PROCESSOR.
checking the EEPROM content with a hex editor shows all zeros.
Anyone have an EEPROM Image available? Or am I screwed and need to recal the scope.

If it's cal it's your cal, no alternatives.
Somewhere is also a serial number.

(plus lesser brands from the work shop of the world)

I posted also on Tekscopes, but I'll mirror it here for others to reference.

If you actually damaged the contents of the cal EEPROM you will need to completely recalibrate the unit.
I think if this happened you would likely get a calibration error on boot (working from memory...), so there might be hope yet for your scope.

I would try reflashing the firmware and NVRAM first to see if the scope comes alive.
Recalibrating is not for the faint of heart, acquiring all the needed equipment and running through the calibration process is quite the ordeal...

Here's the ROM dumps attached below from my TDS794D, they are verified to work on my unit (I copied them into new NVRAM chips recently)

Also, you can find other versions of the firmware files here at Tekwiki if needed:

I double checked and even compare my EEPROM content to that of a good TDS 694C.
I 100% nuked the content of the EEPROM holding the cal data. Unfortunate but it is what it is. |O
Well thanks everyone for your help anyway, especially Jared.
I'll probably take a month for me to gather all the needed equipment for cal.
See you all then.

Nick

Good luck!
Feel free to ask more questions, I've done a cal or two and it's..... fun.... :-DD
Retro computers with ISA slots, leveled sinewave generator (a bit over 1GHz @ 5.5V peak to peak... ) and precision DC sources (You only need to go to +/-9.5V regardless of what the manuals say BTW) etc etc.

If you need a National Instruments ISA GPIB card PM me.

This is a good video on the basic process:
