MCE MT72030D complementary pot/encoder help

Hi All,
Im looking for a bit of advise on something.
I am repairing a mixing console (Neve 66 series) and have come across what feels like a rotary encoder knob but appears to be some sort of specialist half pot half encoder hybrid using an IC called an MCE MT72030D for which I can find no information about whatsoever... one of these encoders has been crunched and is destroyed and needs replacing. If anyone has any insight into how this chip works and the way the special encoder works would be really helping.
