Merz PMKD 2500-appliance tester -display malfunctions
« on: October 12, 2020, 02:12:51 pm »
Hello !

I have 2 identical appliance (safety) testers PCE-MERZ PMKD 2500, one of them has a problem with displaying information. The tester itself works and measures correctly, but (ONLY when the ENG language is set in the menu) the individual lines of text on the display overlap, which makes it unreadable. When the language is set to DE, the display works completely correctly.

The defective tester has older software (ver. 00103) and this is probably the reason ? I wanted to upgrade the firmware myself, but there is no way to download the new firmware and the manufacturer ( PCE-Merz) offers only a paid calibration service, which can be combined with uploading the new firmware. I attach photos.

The tester's manual describes in detail how to upgrade the firmware, but unfortunately I can't find it anywhere unless it is possible to download a newer firmware from a second tester ?

Regards!
Nix

the firmware should reside in an eeprom / rom chip,  it should/could be possible to dump it and reprogram another chip ??   show us some inside photos

It seems a bad display translation, normally in the code / FW you have the display characters positions and fonts associated with each language(s) ... since the words doesn't have the same character lenght
