Hi to everyone, this my first post.
I have Metabo cordless drill with broken switch. To be specific MOSFET and diode released magic smoke. I can replace MOSFET with another one because is has markings. The problem is a diode. I have no idea what diode I should use. There is a photo of a broken switch:

I have another quite similiar drill with the same switch. This on broke some time ago and was replaced under waranty to another with different diode.

The switch is: Defond EGD-1112 B 12A 12V

Can anyone tell me what diode I should use?

Welcome!
Terrible repair from the warranty guys! You can do much better than those monkeys.
I would read the diode model in the "repaired" switch and search in the www an SMD diode with similar or bigger parameters....
Since it looks like the diode is the weak point, I would go with one with bigger current capacity.

Would a TO277 Schottky fit? =>30V =>20A should be enough (given the 40A rating of the MOSFET).

I told them about that and they send my a photo of a few similiar switches claiming that they receved them from Metabo. I asume that Metabo is repairing broken switches or Defond changed diode because of frequent problems.

Now that I look at this photo it looks like one diode have 2100 written on it. Could it be SB2100 schottky diode?

yes, it looks good the SB2100.

Hi,
What were the symptoms of broken switch, I occasionally get no rotation when trigger pressed......
