Title: Metcal MX500P [SOLVED]

I own the Metcal MX500P power supply.
The model that i own is the 1 without the display :

My trouble is: when im using the power supply with the hadler (MX-H1-AV) my hadler after some minutes is going to get hotter in the middle of the hadling zone.
So im thinking to open my power supply and replace all capacitors,maybe this could fix my problem or maybe the problem is the hadler it's self ?

Go to home depot get yourself the armaflex pipe insulation sleeve then sleeve a portion onto your soldering pencil and you won't feel the heat.  ;D

Sounds like the inductor in the handle is overheating. They are available as a replacement part.

Seems to me that your tip cartridge is defective. Try a different one and see if that helps. In contrast to typical soldering stations, the heating power of these is determined only by the tip, not by the base station, which just acts as a big RF power amp.

:-[ I was wrong. Metcal do not do inductor cartridges for the MX500/5000 serie handles.
They are only available for the older SP200 or the lower end PS900.

Problem is solved !!! 8)
Basically my STTC-144 is defective .
I tried to plug my brand new STTC 536 and the problem of the overheat on my hadler is gone :)

Glad to hear it.
Note the STTC-536 is a low-temperature tip (nominally 500 degrees F, or 260 C). This is great for leaded solder with rosin based flux.

Yes i know , i already got 1mm * 500g* of Cynel 60/40 soldering wire :)

STTC-536 According to the metcal catalog (the number 5 stays for 302 C°)
