Hi,

I am a newbie in electronics so I understand I am far away from able to fix anything.
I had bought Multicomp mp710086 DC power supply this year. It was working perfectly. After transporting it from another city, it is not working any more. The display and buttons are all good but the output is always giving 0.183V. The output stays the same when I connect or without a load in the output terminals. This voltage is shown in the LCD is also 0.183V and I have also verified it with my multimeter is same.
I thought during transport, some wires might have come off from their sockets, so carefully I opened it and just glanced inside. Found no loose wires.
The device has a mains power button, and push button for output. So only when output is pushed on, does the output start, but always stays at the same point. I can adjust the voltage and current (it has max 5A) and output shows 5A but same 0.183V.
Any guesses on what could be the problem?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Vikas,

This sounds a lot like a reverse polarity protection diode across the output has become shorted. I presume the psu is not lying about the 5A output, it may well be supplying 5A into this short and the small voltage you see is the voltage drop of the short. Check for shorts with a meter, working backwards from the output terminals.

HTH,
Ed

Hey Nudist
Have you figured out what was wrong with the power supply?
