Help with a Peak Atlas Gold ERS70 ESR meter repair
« on: December 23, 2024, 05:25:23 pm »
Hi All,

My Peak Atlas ERS70 Gold unit fails the Probe Compensation immediately showing the error message "Compensation Fail. Try again" even after several trials.
The capacitance reading is still good but the measured ESR values are very high (~10 ohms even for a good quality cap that should be <1 ohm)
Checked all the higher power resistors ( 33ohms and two of the 150Kohms)  and they seem to be spot on.
Any advice on what could be the reason for this?

thanks,

Resistance in the test leads? It may be measuring capacitance OK but can't handle current.
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

@aargee Thanks for your suggestion but already tried it......the leads are perfectly alright when measured with a Keysight multimeter with less than 0.2ohms lead resistance.

Have you tried contacting Peak (not ideal timing, I know). They are normally very helpful in assisting their customers to repair their instruments.
Best Regards, Chris

I second this, Jeremy is a great guy to deal with, Peak also offer a repair service if it comes to that.
Cheers Scott

I bought a known faulty DCA55 unit and contacted Jeremy for help. He not only offered a repair service, but also supplied a document that detailed testing and repair of the common fault that is caused by human error ! This was the fault in my unit and just required a common IC to be replaced. The service from Jeremy was truly brilliant  :-+ He has the traditional attitude of helping those owners who wish to attempt a repair themselves.
