Looking for SAE Mark VI tuner repair help
« on: February 24, 2023, 10:33:27 am »
Hi guys,
I have a very nice vintage SAE Mark VI tuner from 1970's with the oscilloscope and nixie tubes.
The tuner section works fine, but the oscilloscope trace is very weak.
It seems to be responding correctly, but the image is "washed out" and can not almost be seen.
I live in Geneva, Switzerland.
Anyone who could take a look at this with a view to repair it?
Thanks and regards,
Marko

Most likely some kind of power supply issue (old capacitors etc), although the CRT tubes do have finite lifespans and if it has decades of hours on it it is possible the tube requires replacement.  But my money's on a power issue.

If you go poking around, do be aware that even small CRTS can have potentials of several kilovolts at various points - use extreme caution if you don't know what you're doing.

Edit - I am exceedingly jealous of that tuner  :P  Just beautiful !
