Nad 214 amplifier pulling to much current?
« on: September 25, 2023, 03:29:21 pm »
So I've recapped this Nad 214 amplifier and when I switch on with both amplifier boards disconnected it pulls enough current for a 150w to be lit ( not brightly ) could this be classed as normal? Please see attachment for pics and psu schematic

it is a lot but my sub sucks 80W before music, and that amp is a single channel.
When it fits stop using the hammer

"Not brightly" isn't saying that much, it could be normal, a current measurement would tell us more.
Recapping is great, being a NAD I'm sure it had plenty of dry solders did you look out for those?
Have you checked the qiescie't current is as specified?

I could not find an actual specification, but a post elsewhere about adjusting the NAD 214 bias current indicated that the quiescent power consumption (from mains) was between 30 and 50 watts (no signal).
