Need to identify degraded computer monitor screen membrane
« on: August 26, 2024, 08:16:31 pm »
This monitor got very hot and the heat evidently degraded this reflective coating/sheet. Not exactly sure what you call it and hopefully a guy can get some replacement? You are looking at what is left after removing 3 plastic sheets and the led screen. Remaining (the pic) is a piece of glass with the degraded white stuff underneath. Looks like it is gonna be a mess so haven't taken it any further till I know what is what.
Thanks!

Sorry, it's an Acer Predator XB1 XB321HK. I thought all monitors had the same screen components. :-//

Is this between the LCD panel and the side you look at, or between the panel and the backlight?

You are looking at what is left after removing the LCD panel and 3 layers of plastic film. It is a sheet of glass with something whitish behind it.

That would be the diffuser , meant to evenly distribute the backlight.

Every monitor has a different stackup of layers made by different companies.  Best you can probably do is pull apart some broken monitors of the same size, try switching the parts and see how it looks.

Work somewhere very clean (ideally under a flow hood but few have those) otherwise you will end up with annoying specs of dirt and hair visible in the screen.

Look for diffuser sheets. They're widely available online.

Ok, did a little looking on the diffusion sheets and I believe those are the 3 sheets I removed just under the LCD panel? Found a couple pics and isn't what I need is the white reflection film?
