New to spectrum analyser is the front end fried?
« on: May 12, 2018, 03:32:55 am »
I am brand new to spectrum analyzers. So please forgive the noobie question. I bought this used and this is the first power up. It looks like it is displaying lots of signal right at DC?. The input is tolerant of a little DC but it really starts working at around 0.15 Mhz. is the front end toasted on this one or is it WAY out of cal? If you roll the pot left the counter jump to 1999.9 so kind of strange. Forgot to mention is it a BK 2630

Welcome to the forum.

Well first hit on Google gives some answers:
150kHz to 1.05GHz (1050MHz)

That's normal.  Most (all?) analog RF spectrum analyzers show a big signal at zero Hz.

Rather than try and explain it myself, I'll let the experts do it.

Thanks for the PDF. Some morning reading with my coffee,  8). I was was honestly hoping this was user error in reading the device and I did not get a little singed on use gear again. I have had to repair a few things from the lab.
