not a repair as such but here goes
« on: January 21, 2021, 02:44:39 pm »
Hi all,i have a kenwood dso,the rtc battery was flat when i got it,i changed that but still the clock wouldnt keep time, after some poking about i changed the xtal+associated caps around the rtc,the original rtc battery was soldered on to the pcb,i fitted a holder for a lithium 3v cell (the original battery was twice the size),it had no markings!,i assume 5 or 6v,the replacement works but only lasts a few months, could i replace it with a 18650 cell in a holder and tap off a 5v supply for a tp 4056 charger modual,or is that asking for trouble, there is just about room inside to do this, what do you think?,cheers Paul.m3vuv

What markings were on the original cell?

I don't think constantly charging a cell is a great idea.

there wasnt any, just yellow shrink wrap, looked to be like 2x cr2032 cells stuck together by the look of it.

From your description it could have been anything, NiCd, NiMh, lithium, manganese dioxide, it could have been 1.2V, 2.4V, 3V or more than 6V, difficult to tell what it was definitively, I assume you've disposed of it?

Edit (and yeah, you did say there weren't any markings)

What's the model number of the 'scope?

Oh wow, there's nothing out there on the net.

Are you able to take some pictures of the board which show the chip markings better, the ones you've taken before aren't readable?

admittedly, the issue was solved ish but only short term, thats why im asking about this, seems logical to use an 18650 with a tp 4052 charger ic,that was the whole point of the post.
