Obtaining schematics legitimately these days ?

What brand name consumer electronics could an average consumer even buy a schematic for ? When did companies making stuff like radio's, TV's, VCRs, computers, EE equipment, , stop selling/including schematics, or anything useful to a repair-person(or robot) for that matter ?

I still remember the days when a circuit diagram was stuffed inside the back of every TV set. Today there is no excuse for a circuit diagram or service manual not to be made available as a PDF via a free public download.

I have a small GE microwave oven that I bought around 15 years ago.   The button than operates the door latch broke.  When I opened it up there was large foldout sheet  service manual in an envelope taped to the inside.

So what does Tektronix and the like do these days ? I guess let the machine do a self-test and give you a service department.
