Old Weller 8200 She lives- corroded AC plug
« on: October 07, 2017, 07:48:27 am »
Before sanding off the 2 AC prongs, I was getting 10^5-6 Ohm on this primary trans. winding. After it went to a few ohms IDR but yup the only reason this 140W Weller didn't work was corroded AC plug

Just put her to good use on some brass AC connectors and 12G wire

Just a note- the ol' Weller 8200 generates several kV at the tip when switching the gun on/off or hi/low.
Kills a lot of semiconductors, like a massive ESD hit.

Trick is only have the heat on or off when touching (soldering) the parts. Or ground the tip (secondary).

I wonder if people know to re-torque the tip nuts fairly frequently to give good connections, or the thing never heats up.
