Olympus T-100 does not boot, just blinks and shuts down
« on: October 16, 2018, 09:05:24 am »
I have an Olympus T-100, I press the start button, the red LED flashes several times and then stops and shuts down. The screen does not work at all.
The board (after I disassembled everything) can be seen in the atached pictures.

I apply voltage to the white cable, on the top left of the 1st picture.
The red LED begins blinking and then stops and (I guess) it shuts down.

The points I have marked as Vcc in red have Vcc voltage. They are directly connected to Vcc (the white cable).

Firstly I want to find which are the components marked with a red question mark on the pictures:
1. 72700H 101182
2. M11L 2201
3. EJLh (6 pins)
4. EJJh (6 pins)
5. 8A with a horizontal 'E' (3 pins)
6. AFBV and horizontal '18'
7. 9D27 P4007 8 pins, (I think it's a MOSFET)
8. DI9004 BBCZ
9. SJGh (6 pins)
10. C2 (5 pins)

Something that seems strange to me: on the right photo, the part I have marked as 'C2' and has 5 pins, it 's top right pin connects to Vcc power supply. On it 's bottom right pin connects the exit of the Mosfet 4407.
This Mosfet has the Vcc in it 's input.
So when the Mosfet conducts, C2 has Vcc on TWO pins, the one on top right and the one at the bottom right...
This looks odd...

Any help is welcome.

Since you can buy a used one for about 30 Euro in Ebay I would do not invest more than 1 hour in fixing it.
I suggest to dispose it in the cemetery corner and then move on with a new camera.

Well yes, the main goal of this repair is for 'educational' reasons.

Have you done further investigation using a scope?

No, I have no scope.
The only further 'investigation' was that I tested how much current it draws when it works (that is from when I press the start button till it shuts down). It draws 60mA only, which seems normal and I suppose indicates that there is no short circuit to ground.

panoss, it's a very useful and powerful "educational" tool.
If you want to learn from a broken circuit, buy a cheap ass analog scope...

You will not regret it.

no picture and no backlight? is that with everything connected?
no screen can mean totally fried, or it can mean missing important voltage rail
check for supply on flash chip, SDcard connector

Yes, with everything connected there is no picture and no backlight. A 'dead' screen.
I hadn't realize the scope is such a powerfull learning tool.
I must get one.

or it can mean missing important voltage rail
This is what I want to check, the voltage rail.
And first of all I 've found (I hope all) the components that are in direct connection with Vcc (marked with red 'VCC' on the pictures).

So now I want to find which of the unidentified components are power supplies.
(thus I have to identify them)

Generally my plan is: find all power supplies and check if they function correctly.

Yes I 'm trying to find the Vcc on the flash chip (HY27US08561A, Supply voltage:  2.7 to 3.6V).
It 's this package:

While in the datasheet I found, page 6, a different package, according to which pin 12 is Vcc.

My package is in page 43 but I don't know if pin 12 is Vcc in this package.
