Yes, failing electrolytics can increase capacitance when heated. I first encountered that when a colleague asked me to repair his PC that would not power on when the button was pressed. He had googled and found a suggestion to blow hot air from a hairdryer into the fan hole of the PSU for a few minutes. That worked each time. Permanent fix was to replace the electrolytic after the rectifier in the 5 volt standby supply. |
