I'd start by finding the most recent firmware for the device and trying to reinstall it.  That will tell you if it is just a boot image corruption problem or an actual device failure.

Re: Tektronics 7623a Oscilloscope repair

Hi

Sorry if I'm in the wrong area, but can anyone please help.

I have a 7623a oscilloscope, which I powered up yesterday, stupidly.

It is really old, and has been in a shed for ages and was probably damp. When I powered it up, there was a green haze on the display. This was dancing around for a while, but after about a minute, it suddenly just died. Consider me fairly new to electronics, but have a reasonable understanding of the basics. I want to learn a lot more, hence my getting the oscilloscope out.

The question I have is, is it worth/possible repairing. . I am happy to have a go. If not, I know they are fairly cheap on eBay, probably 50 - 100. Ifits not worth repairing, I think it may be useful to someone else on here.

Hoping someone on here can please help or advise me.

You're in the right area! There are many oscilloscope enthusiasts here who may be able to help you. But you've posted a reply to another query about another type of scope altogether. Far better to start a new topic, and give it a clear and intriguing title. I presume this is a Tektronix 7623A? If so, make sure your title includes "Tektronix 7623A". Tell us as much information as you can about the scope and the fault. Also tell us what test gear and tools you have for the repair (multimeters, soldering gear, other scopes, etc.). With a little more information, you'll get more useful responses.

I have never seen a Yokogawa service manual in the US.  I would contact Yokogawa directly in Japan and see if they can help.  The Japanese have been surprisingly helpful to me when I contacted them directly.

Does this model use the plug in acquisition modules? Do you have the modules for it?   I was considering a DL708 but decided against if because modules were too hard to find and the fact that service information appears to simply not exist.
