Schematics / circuits for Bose AWRCC5 or AWRCC6
« on: December 23, 2017, 10:56:53 am »
Hello all
I have a Bose AWRCC6 which almost works!  If I can explain, the display seems good and in many ways the beast responds to the remote.  Volume, clock, alarm all respond, but I get the fail message 'Please Wait' when I try to actually switch on and get it to play some music for me.  This I gather is indicative of some or other hardware failure but having repaired many of the earlier AWRC3x (lift up CD lid model) I'd like to repair this too.

Does anyone have circuits for the  Bose AWRCC5 or AWRCC6 I could see?  By way of a trade, if it helps, I have some circuits for the earlier model.  I'd be grateful for any support I can get though.

Thanks all
Steve

Hi Steve, hi all,

I have a Bose AWRCC4 with slide-in CD on my desk that behaves exactly as you described. Setting the correct time works fine, also setting the alarm. The time advances and as soon as the alarm triggers the time falls back to 12:00 and it shows 'Please Wait'.  :(
Unfortunately I can't find a schematic or a repair manual either.

I have repaired a few of these (without schematics) and I seem to recall there is a standby 5V or 7.5V supply that fails and prevents some circuitry from functioning. It's not a complex device inside so I encourage you to "take it apart" with a nearby computer ready to look at some datasheets and do some troubleshooting.

The failure mode is the same as shown on youtube, have found two suspicious electrolytic capacitors so far, but the repair is not yet 100% reliable.

I will exchange a few more electrolytic capacitors.  :-/O

I have replaced most Caps on the AWRCC1 plus gave him a new CD drive, works very good but not perfect.
I think I remember that replacing the Caps in the CD area helped most.

Recapping done - it works again - my mother in law will be happy  :)
I replaced all capacitors on the processor board with 105°C low ESR types.
