PC motherboard: CLK signal amplitude 250mV
« on: December 01, 2020, 03:20:43 pm »
Any common, known issues that could cause such? Frequency is correct, it's just that the signal amplitude is presumably way out of range, and shifted to higher voltage level.

And after probing a working motherboard, this seems to be perfectly normal. Who would've known.

How's the probing done?
Is this a differential clock line?
It may well be normal, have you checked the datasheet for whatever you're probing (PLL output)?

It looks like you're probing 46Mhz with the scope probe on X1 and the scope's 20MHz BW limit on. :)

X10 and the 20MHz BW off would give a much closer amplitude value.
.  That took much longer than I thought it would.

X10 and the 20MHz BW off would give a much closer amplitude value.

A X10 probe has the effect of reducing capacitance by a factor of ten.

OK now it makes sense :) Looks somewhat closer to the expected values :D
