Hi!
I am trying to repair the screen of this old HP 320LX. The problem is that the screen is very dim, barely readable. I took it apart and realized someone else messed it up before me. It had a "removable" polarizer film over the main screen. I can tell it was not factory made because it was really poorly cut - apparently the technician did not know how to cut square angles.
So I don't know much about LCD displays, but this one, even though it does have a light, is not backlit. The light source come from the side and does not affect the display too much.
I purchased 2 different "types" of polarizer filters. One with adhesive and one without, tired both and failed. They all yield the same dim-almost-unreadable screen.
I think it has to do with the type of polarizer filter. It feels like the one I have (and the one was there) is too dark like a sunglass. That blocks the light and it gets greenish tone and dark.
I searched all the internet and did not find a different type of polarizer. I see those designed to repair motorcycle panel displays which are composed by 2 films, one reflective to go in the back of the display and one that goes in front of it. Even for those I have seen only examples of applications for backlit displays, so I guess that won't work either.
Any of the experienced fellows could have some piece of advice for me? It breaks my heart to see this device like this. It is in near perfect condition, except for that "little" problem.
