Please help identify this IC FLA-MZ (Synology DS411Slim)
« on: April 25, 2021, 09:11:51 pm »
Hello everybody,
it's now time for me to ask for help, I've got a nice little Synology DS411Lite with the famous "blue blink of death", unfortunately not a firmware corruption problem, but one of the power supplies is showing short-circuit  :-BROKE

It's a small ca. 2.5x2.5mm IC that is obviously a switcher, in the picture is U17, on the almost invisible markings it has F LA on the first row and MZ on the second row.

A similar chip is used on the neighbor power supply, that produces 5V.

Also if someone ever measured or could measure the voltage there on such a device, I'll be most grateful.

 Many thanks,
 DC1MC

If you can't identify the chip, examine the 5V supply and identify the two resistors that form a voltage divider from Vout to the feedback and ground pins. Measure the voltage on the feedback pin (Vfb). Locate the same resistors in your dead circuit and compute the expected output based on Vfb and the values of the resistors.

Vout = (1 + Rhigh / Rlow) x Vfb

Could you provide a better picture of it? Sometimes if it's laser-marked, rubbing it with liquid may reveal the markings more clearly.

Is there a '-' or '=' between "F" and "LA"? I suspect this is a Richtek part of some sort.

No, there is nothing of this, no better pictures available, it was a stretch for my phone camera, I'm afraid that board is anyways knakered, but for reference the markins looked like:

F LA
  MZ

there is a space in between F and LA on the first row.

 Cheers,
