Hello, amazing people!

The magic smoke has escaped from an element on an integrated circuit board I have ....and I have difficulties identifying it. It is a Texas Instruments IC in TSSOP-8 package and from what is left of it I can see that it ends with 22 on the first row and with 5240 on the second. Does any of you has any idea what this is ... Thanks in advance

Ahhh I think it is a TI SN75240 quadruple, unidirectional usb transient voltage suppressor. The board communicates with the other part of the system via usb ...so it makes sense. I am going to leave the thread for indexing purposes if someone else on the Internet has a similar issue. Your opinion is welcomed of course ..cause i might be wrong  :-//

I agree with you, especially seeing the two matched traces coming out of the pins "C" and "D".

Glad this part still has decent part markings... These have become so minimalist these days... :P

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
