PROBLEMS WITH RIGOL DS1202Z-E AFTER UPDATE IT DOES NOT TURN ON
« on: January 18, 2025, 04:42:35 pm »
Hello, I'll tell you the problem, the equipment is new, at first I put a wrong hack on it and it went from 200 mhz to 100 mhz but it worked well, then I tried to install an official update and the equipment stayed on the logo, the only way I could get it out of there is to install another firmware of another model, a 4-channel version, it passed the logo but everything went crazy, the tips didn't work, then I tried with another firmware and from that moment on it didn't turn on again, not even the logo and the worst thing is that you can't force the firmware installation with the green help button, I think the pre boot was damaged or something like that.

If anyone has an SPI file to get rid of that error or some other solution, I would appreciate it.

Hi, dunno, am not familiar with your Rigol DS-1202Z,
but often updates are not so necessary for electronic measurment devices .

But I do know there is a bunch of differences between 100Mhz & 200Mhz.
And simply an update won't resolve that, periode.

There is a lot of hardware involved ;-?

You could try a "cold" re-flash, perhapse the system kept somewhere in a ROM-part
the original version, . . .

But please, quit thinkering with things you don't know about.
What amateur electronics hobbyist needs more than 100Mhz  :phew:

what are you talking about "cold" re-flash, And as for the MHz, my oscilloscope was originally 200, but due to my clumsiness it was set to 100 MHz.

I have already tried all the options in that link, the problem is that the computer does not install the firmware by force when pressing the help button, the screen goes black and after 4 minutes it turns red with all the LEDs flashing.

The HELP button must be pressed three times immediately after the short beep.
Is there a short beep?

It no longer has a short beep when you turn it on, the lights only flash once and do nothing else until after 4 minutes the screen turns red and all the LEDs flash
The HELP button must be pressed three times immediately after the short beep.

If anyone has a solution, even if it involves risks, please tell me what to do. The truth is that I have that oscilloscope lost. If you have to unsolder the SPI, I have experience in micro electronics and I have a tool for programming memories. :-BROKE

I think for recovery you need a flash memory image of a working oscilloscope.
Of the pitfalls - the serial number and calibration may fly off.
Maybe it is easier to contact Rigol to clarify the actions.

I have already sent an email to rigol without a response. Does anyone know where or who can help me with a dump file of the SPI of a working oscilloscope?

Hi, for what it is still worth:
sometimes, and I mean really sometimes <back in the good 'ol days,...>
When this thing has a RAM-batt, you like an ordinary desktop PC,
take it out, and let is reset overnight, . . .
Next day, start it first up without the RAM-batt,
and only after full re-booting, than reaplce a fresh new RAM-battcell, . . .

But hey: do this only if aware of what means static-discharge hazards,
or you' make things even worse ;-?
Goodluck

There are many replies about "bricked" DSO.  A search came up, among others, with this:

hello,

I think you  should take inspiration from this thread of discussion noted.

The Actel A3P030 must contain the flash and seem to have a port JTAG
Pins: 47 TCK, 48 TDI, 49 TMS, 54 TDO. see also for the ground and Vjtag.
Probably one of the connectors will allow the connenions. You have to find the connections with a multimeter.
Use as in the chat thread the Jtag software, a Jtag adapter parrallele (Segger)
Nb: you have to configure Jtag. (i don't know how)
Make a backup of the full flash.
Use a hexadecimal editor to view the content of the flash (serial number etc)
After it takes a recover a flash that works and reprogram

Work remainder, serial number, calibration, etc
