Questions about TDS2022B
« on: November 25, 2018, 10:04:41 am »
Hi,
I have bought an old used TDS2022B, which can not boot up.
When I push the power button on,it is dead with 3 LEDs light and nothing is displayed on the LCD.
The COMP interface outputs 1V/5KHz wave when the 3 LED's light.
I found it's motherboard is similar to TBS2012 when I disassembled it. :o

Now,it puzzles me.I have the following questions:
1 what type of the motherboard is it? TDS2022B or TBS2012?
2 How can I bring it up?
Please give me some advise about that.Thank you!

Very similar to how my TDS2012B died.  >:(
Same main board for 100 and 200 MHz models.....yes 100 can be hacked to 200 MHz.

The service manual specifies one of the checks is the probe comp output and yes when its just 1V and 5KHz you have a problem !

First, of course check the PSU.
Second, carefully inspect the top side of the main PCB. Tek used an open top design for ventilation and contaminates can fall onto the PCB and over time corrode IC pins.....that's what happened to mine with one pin on U900 corroded through !
So very very fine to repair...yes I've tried and as the chip is 100 pin and programmable I haven't replaced it yet.
Last time I looked it was a $30 IC.  :o

Yes,TDS1000B/2000B have the same firmware,so upgrade is possible.
But,I find my motherboard is same to TBS2012's board.
TDS and TBS have the same board?

I don't think so, TBS are much later DSO's:

I do not find my U900's pin have problem :(
There is no reset signal send to U900 so I think the FLASH chip may lost some info. I plan to check that first.

We had the same problem at work, and it turned out with some keys pushed while powering on the scope (which I don't remember of course), can be brought back to life, at least we could...

I've had one of those with the same problem and it was power supply. One of the capacitors right by the transformer in the middle of the board PSU was bad. Check caps please. Mine was easy to spot as it spilled its content. I may have a picture somewhere, if I find it I post it later on.

I have checked the power connector(J101) of the board. All the voltages are similar to the data in TEK's service manual.
I think PSU is ok.
