Removing broken touch panel from Surface 3 LCD with heat gun?
« on: January 19, 2019, 10:01:02 pm »
About 2 months ago I bought a damaged Surface 3 (not pro) to use with external monitor, kind of like a smart monitor, I was certain that the screen was completely gone because the touch panel was pretty beat up (even the body of the tablet is bent at one corner) Today I connected it up just for the heck of it and what do you know, the LCD itself is perfectly fine. So I want to remove the damaged touch panel and use the tablet with the original screen instead of external monitor, but its pretty tightly glued to the screen. I want to know if using a heat gun on it to loosen the glue would be fine or not? And how much heat could it take before damaging it? There doesn't seem to be any gap between the two, is this what they call a laminated screen?

I don't think this is possible without specialised equipment.
