Repaired - Digitron T208 Thermocouple meter
(1/1)

Got it free from work, they give me lots of nice broken stuff.

It had a common LCD issue. Problem was half the segments were not visible, the other half dim or fully visible.

Tore it down - very difficult as it is completely sealed. Had to cut open at the only exposed edge and unbolt the battery hookups (9V) - the connector connects through some bolts. I guess it is designed for factory environments with a lot of dust and particulates, or maybe even brief submersion? I did not care about that, I just wanted a nice accurate thermocouple meter.

So, I tore it down to reveal the circuit board. Immediately, I saw the problem: the zebra strips were bent. I loosened the LCD bolts, reseated the zebra strips, and that fixed it.

Second issue was I had no thermocouples with the standardised connector. I -did- have one with banana plugs. So I cut the leads off, and soldered them to the PCB.

Free, very high accuracy thermocouple meter. Lots of uses for this one - will replace my IR thermometer for most uses.

Suspect the OEM to be "AET", unit is made in England.
