Repairing old philips PM 3230 osciloscope
« on: December 12, 2019, 10:03:14 pm »
Hello, i buy very cheap old Philips PM 3230 scope, and wanted to recover it to it’s best time. The seller say that only one channel is working and it’s true. And the one that is working im not shure if it works good. Im shure it’s not. After it was delivered to me i opened it and saw that inside it is unfortunately not in oryginał shape. I buy it because i know it is old vintage scope made on electron lamp and i saw that there left only two of them, when there should be 7 of them. I see someone replace them to some TBF459 transistors but i would like to restore it to it’s oryginal state. And i would like to know if i can just replace it again to stands for lamp and elektron lamp? I also see that there are some lacking resistors on pcb so it seems to me i also must mount them as they was oryginaly with proper resistance right? What else should i note when repairing? Should i replace all capacitors and some resistors? What about high voltage capacitors, because they are made of paper capacitors. Is it good idea to replace it or if scope is working let them also work? I also add that scope is powering on i can see dot on channel b but it is not in level. I can change time div. Ant it seems to work. Also V/div work. But when i change for example position Y it sometimes disappear. There is also on the channel not working when i mąkę more intensity all screen is going to light up and blinking and i can’t change it’s position y. That’s for the fast describe if i you want me to check somethink else ask. I would like to know if it is possible to repair it and bring to it’s original state. I add that on working channel i can see sine wave of my toroidal 12v transformer but it also blink a little on 1 and 2 ms.

That board looks like it has a few over heated components and a pot is missing. Google for the service manual and start checking voltages and the components.

Interesting. I seem to have an earlier version of the same oscilloscope. But you can see the missing potentiometer.

It´s not missing, it´s been replaced by the tiny orange trimmer directly soldered to the posts.

Just in case anyone is interested, I have scanned my manual and uploaded it here:
https://asrock.campus.ltu.se/manuals/Philips_PM3032_users_manual-lowres.pdf

I also have all circuit diagrams in separate jpgs to make them more usable (in the manual they are all fold-out):
https://asrock.campus.ltu.se/manuals/

Is there somewhere on this forum where we collect manuals? Or an external site I could upload it to?
