| Replace USB-C port on Thinkpad |

My board also has very tiny SMD parts very close to the USB port. In a couple videos I see the tech covering those with Kapton tape. I just don't know if that really does any good. I don't have any experience with Kapton tape. I was thinking that it might be possible to find a cube of metal the size of the port, heat it up to maybe 450C away from the board, then place it on top of the port. The plan would be to heat the port, but nothing else. That might allow you to remove the old port safely, but there's still the problem of getting the new one installed. I don't know if the same method could be used for that. Also, if everything works with the plug in one position, but it won't stay that way, it might be possible to glue slivers of toothpick inside the port to keep the plug in the right position. Or possibly add something to the outside of the plug to accomplish the same thing - maybe some kind of tape. |
