Replaced analog stick on xbox controller, STILL DRIFTS! :-(
« on: January 03, 2020, 09:09:35 am »
So I replaced the analog joysticks on 3 old xbox controllers. However I still have the left stick drifting on all 3 controllers. How is that possible? A little frustrated after spending time soldering in new joysticks. I used part #: RKJXV1224005 from ALPS.

If you mean that the joystick shows an offset to one side (e.g. you character in a game keeps moving or camera turning) even when you are not pushing it, that's much more likely to be a calibration issue (i.e. software problem) than anything to do with hardware.

Joystick "drift" just means that the joystick is not centered exactly (it never is - manufacturing tolerances, etc.), so you need to calibrate those offsets out and possibly add a "dead zone" (threshold) around the middle position. I am pretty sure XBox has a controller calibration utility, try to use that.

I had few of "those" controllers, replaced resistors near joysticks, those were off by a bit and then it worked. :) maybe try to measure resistance, but I would agree about calibration that are mentioned above.

Heya @VeryFastSnail,

I found your post after trying to work out why my stick on two elite pads are off center even after replacing the sticks twice. I have checked voltages and resistance on the pad on each stick. I was wondering if you could help me out, do the values look right and the 1V on the left hand stick should be 0.9v on each side of the resistor like the right stick.
