replacement transformer

need help sourcing a replacement transformer
for a dinosour control box.

any advice greatly apprectiated or point in right direction.

primary 0v-110v-240v
secondary 24v/5.2A-20v-16v-14v-0v-14v-16v-20v--24v

That looks like an awkward one, with so many closely spaced taps.

It could well be possible to buy an appropriately rated 24-0-24V transformer, remove the outer tape, and solder wires on at the appropriate points on the secondary winding. The primary winding is safely insulated underneath the secondary, so wouldn't be compromised.

You would be need to be careful not to accidentally create any shorted turns or melt through the primary - secondary insulation. Glass fibre tape would help.


P.S. You didn't say, but presumably the primary winding has failed on the existing one. That would be a much harder repair.

Or start with a 9A 14V-0-14V one (9A to get a high enough VA rating) then put on two 10V overwinds to connect in series with the existing secondary tapped every 2V.  Don't connect the extra taps that would give 22V, but its easier to put them in while you are winding than to find you've actually missed the 2V tap on one of the overwinds because you got the phasing wrong!

Thankx for the advice Ian and Gyro. outside of my knowledge though.

managed to touch base with a company that seem to know what there talking about and are going to build a new one.
