Rigol DS1052E "loose component"

Hi, thought I create an account here to see if anyone can help me with this weird issue.

I was moving this old Rigol scope around on the bench and heard something rattling around inside. Took it apart and found a loose component inside. It doesn't look damaged. Part number is SC566, it's a small SMD SO-8 package. I assume it's this one: ST93CS566 from manufacturer ST. Supposed to be an EEPROM.

What's this for and where is the actual component supposed to sit? I looked around for 20min and didn't find anything out the ordinary. Haven't noticed anything wrong with the scope either, could be some function that I don't use that's affected though.

Have you owned this scope since new?
Is there any evidence of solder on the pins?

I would suspect that someone has sat this ic on top of the scope and it has fallen in through one of the vents or openings.

Yeah. Bought it new. It was some time ago now but I believe it was inside some metal shield I found it. Can't remember it I dealt with such chip at some point either. It's nothing I got in my lab at least. Guess it's possible but hm...

Oh yeah, chip looks really clean. Could be a thin layer of solder, it's kinda glossy on the legs.

maybe from the factory? i have found inside on an motu 896mk3 15 years a go one more printed plastik label.is instaled  front of the unit from one side to the other to show all the parameters and was one more inside behind the front panel.😂
