Rigol DS1052E White screen but not dead
« on: August 19, 2015, 08:59:43 pm »
Switched my DS1052E scope on one day to be met with blank (white) screen.
It had been working fine, I have had it from new; no 100Mhz hacks or firmware upgrades.
Buttons and lights seemed to be working, so I connected the scope to my PC via USB and launched Ultrascope.
The Ultrascope Virtual Panel shows the scope display as normal!  I can control the scope from the Virtual Panel
and see channel input waveforms as expected.

So, I have a scope that "works", but has a permanent white screen. Before I start disassembling the device,
does anyone have some advice on what the cause might be?

Regards,

Welcome to the forum.

Carefully check the ribbon cable that connects the MB to the display at each end.
It will likely involve almost full disassembly of the scope.

More likely ribbon on LCD panel, as last comment stated, or bad panel, or controller.  Can be fixed more likely.

Thanks for your replies. I'll get some torx screwdrivers and get inside. Out of warranty - nothing to lose.
