Rigol DS1102E not triggering correctly.
« on: October 01, 2024, 07:27:50 pm »
Hello everyone.

I have a Rigol DS1102E wich I haven't use in a couple of months, I was working on a device and when measured the clock signal, te signal looks untriggered, so I put the probe in the compensation pin, the 1khz signal should look like stable and steady, but I looks untriggered.(See gif and pic below)

If anyone can help with this, I have no idea how the trigger section of this or any scope works, so any help explaining this is welcome, and a hint where or what section of the PCB to look .

Some other details:

-The measurements works fine.
-The knob varies the level and I put it between the signal in edge mode, but within ot not the signal there is no difference.

If any other detail is important please post it and I answer it. Thanks.

You can try factory resetting the scope. That would eliminate the potential factor of incorrect settings.
Hehe, spooked my friends with an exploding electrolytic capacitor the other day 😁.

Try pushing the 'Auto' button.

Period jitter on the clock pulse  that you're trying to look at? Try a lower frequency timebase setting and look for repetitive patterns.

(When the scope grows up it wants to be an HP 😁)

AIUI the photos are of the waveform from the scope's probe cal output. Typically those are stable 1kHz.

Where is that setting? I cannot find it.

I did it several times before posting, no difference :(

Have you tried altering the slope to trailing edge?

Yes, no difference.

Im thinking in opening the scope and search for something, but I really don't know exactly where to look.

One thing to notice, the scope doesn't seem to trigger or at least synchronize the waveform in the screen, but when I use the measurement menu, everyrything looks correct, using the 1Khz probe cal, using external waveforms, etc, the only problem is that the waveform dont get static when trigered.

Any ideas, sugestions?

trigger level too low, or it try to trigger on a portion of the signal who could be unstable ??
