Hi,
I'm trying to repair a Pro-ject CD Box RS (a CD player). The previous owner wanted to extend the cable from the external power supply and managed to switch polarity - the result being two ruined voltage regulators inside.
I'm relatively new to SMD and hot air, and managed to rip off a solder pad. I couldn't see any traces to it on the solder mask, so I thought perhaps it's a multilayered board. Thankfully, the two voltage regulators are set up in identical fashion so I thought I should see where the same pin on the other regulator went.
However, I've probed around on all components and pins (I think), and can't for the life of me figure out where that pin goes. I think it's the VREF pin (no markings on IC, so assumed pin 1 was down left relative to the writing on the chip). Voltage regulator is L5970D.
Could it be that the VREF pin isn't used in the design at all, and left open? Or is there any typical place I could look?
