Roberts DAB Radio, DreamTime model, dim display
« on: September 08, 2022, 01:29:56 pm »
I've got a Roberts Dreamtime DAB Radio with a display that is almost to dim to see. The DIM button makes it dimmer. The radio works fine with the exception of the display. Before I dive in looking for things gleaned from a lifetime of electronic build and repair, does anyone have a schematic/circuit diagram, or any knowledge about this please?

If the display is an OLED you must replace it.

If the display is an LCD then you can replace the backlight LEDs. These are normally on a long thin pcb which you need to lift in the middle to get the ends out of the plastic surround.
The LEDs are normally 0603 white or cool white
Happy fixing

From the photos I have seen it looks like an LCD. As you will know if you have any device with an LCD display and a contrast pot, the wrong setting can give a very low contrast display irrespective of backlight illumination.  My experience is that LCDs themselves in general do not fade, at least not significantly, so if the backlight is as bright as ever I would investigate the LCD driving circuitry before assuming you need to change the LCD.
