R&S CMU200 hangs after some time
« on: June 12, 2017, 08:49:56 pm »
Hi,

I have a R&S CMU200 test set. After a while it hangs (around half an hour of use). Looks like a thermal issue.

Before opening the unit, I'd like to know if it's a common issue or if anybody had a similar problem, so I know what to look for.
Beside this, the unit works perfectly fine.

Thanks !

Could be quite a few things. Any messages ? Just random? Message on subsequent boot?

1.
Remove the main cover and see if it still does it.
2.
On mine the small fan on the corner of the display/computer module was seized. Removing the sticker and a adding few drops of oil has fixed it. Been going for a year now.
Note the temperature warning tag on one of the chips. It should tell you if it has gone overtemp in the past.
3.
Also note the presence of a fan in the power supply module. The PSU shuts down if a certain temperature is exceeded. Look at the row of leds on the motherboard to see if a voltage goes missing.
Lots of photos in my previous posting of the CMU200 PSU about a year ago.
4.
And, finally, there is the main fan on the CMU200 that was full of dust and also needed cleaning.

I would do a quick look at these before hunting down an electronics, hard drive or software issue.
Good luck with it.
