RTV162 versus ASI388
« on: January 24, 2020, 11:43:10 pm »
I searched the forum for information on both these adhesives and got no hits. Does anyone know the pros/cons of using either of these to attach new electronic components on old circuit boards? In particular I want to replace electrolytic capacitors on an old HP device (HP11729C). The original capacitors have 3 leads, one of which was to control mechanical movement. The new capacitors only have two leads (like normal capacitors) so, I thought I would put a ring of sealant around the base of the capacitor and attach them to the existing PC board.

My understanding is I should use an electronics grade adhesive. Both RTV162 and ASI388 are advertised as such, but RTV162 costs ~$28 (US), while ASI 388 costs ~$8 (US). Obviously, if ASI388 has no disadvantages, I would use it. But, the cost difference may arise because ASI388 is inferior. Anyone have experience with it?
