Samsung DVD Player - Tray quite slow [solved]
« on: January 01, 2024, 08:03:05 pm »
I'd like to ask your opinion about this Samsung DVD-P181/EDC player because I'd like to sell it and I'm afraid maybe its tray is too slow to open/close. Consider I've just rescued it so I don't know how it worked when it was a brand new device.

Let's make a comparison between
- the Philips DVD player you helped me to fix some weeks ago -> video
and
- this Samsung DVD Player -> video.
I've made this video after I lubricated all the plastic gears and "tracks" involved in tray movement. This time the belt is in perfect conditions so it can't be the culprit opposite to the previous Philips case.
Well, its electric engine sounds quite strained/stressed to my ears in comparison with the Philips one but I could be wrong, what do you think about it and about its tray speed?

Looks fast enough to me and it is essentially the same mechanism as in the DVD drive in the PC I'm typing this on.

It's quite fast actually and is you compare both videos, they both take about the same time. Also it does not sound strained, just different mechanisms.

Thanks for your answers :)

Just an OT curiosity about this player: as you can see by the attachment there's no way to manually open the tray unlocking it from the bottom, opposite to the previous Philips player; so does this mean it's impossible to rescue a DVD inside this player if the tray fails to open but dismantling it as I've done this time?
