Compared to say a modern thermostat, it sure has a lot of electrolytic caps, it that for the audio ? What else needs so many, some step down regulators, what all else ?

I would check the SMT fuses. Door solenoids and their wiring can get shorted out.
FS1 "FC" near the relay, FS2 by CN1? etc. pic is too fuzzy to see them all. They are green.
Which connector goes to the door solenoid?

actually I repaired the thing and that's why I provided a link to the YouTube video to share my experience. the first 4Pin connector from the left goes to the door. the problem was not solenoid
