Self test FAILED Anritsu MT8222A
« on: November 16, 2024, 08:15:14 am »
Hello!

I see the message SELF TEST FAILED during boot up the device. But device powers on and shows something.

Does this failure of test mean device is broken somehow? Is it critical problem?

Thanks!

Go into system menu and run the self test. It will report test results and what failed. The system self test is just that. The application self tests apply to currently set measurement application (CAA, SPA, etc.)

Boot-up Self Test fails:
1. Perform a Master Reset.
If the message relates to the RTC battery, replace the RTC battery on the Main PCB.
2. The Main PCB has failed. Replace the Main PCB/Spectrum Analyzer assembly

Perform a Master Reset:
1. Turn the instrument on.
2. Press the Shift button then the System ( 8 ) button.
3. Press the System Options submenu key.
4. Press the Reset key, then the Master Reset key.
5. A dialog box will be displayed on the screen warning that all settings will be returned to
factory default values and all user files will be deleted. This deletion is a standard file
delete and does not involve overwriting exiting information.
6. Press the Enter button to complete the master reset.
7. The instrument will reboot and the reset is complete.

That's what it looks like - the small coin cell battery on main PCB.

Yes, you were right. This small battery caused the issue. I replaced it and self test passed OK! Thank you so much!

BTW, is there any way to open options on MT8222A?

PS: to whom it may concerned battery type is BR1225

Options can be unlocked/installed with internal Anritsu SW. Some savvy hacks might be able to play with the hex code.

Some of the worthy options require hardware. If I were thinking of the high accuracy power meter, I'd rather find something else since only the older power sensors would be supported. None of the demodulation analyzers are interesting unless you're doing compliance testing of those standards. Interference Analyzer and Channel Scanner might be interesting, but they are older implementations. Gated Sweep is another SW option.
